2020 was a rollercoaster ride for all of us. A lot of unexpected things happened throughout the year that might have overwhelmed us. With 2021 just beginning, it is important to take a step back to look at yourself and how your life is at the moment:
Are you happy with it? Are you happy with your habits and routines?
If the answer is no, come with me while I explore the 10 life-changing habits that I am implementing in my life in 2021.
Sleep early! Wake up early!
This one is quite obvious – however, the reality is most people don’t pay much attention to their sleeping pattern. And at the same time, they don’t understand how important it is to let your body rest as much as it needs.
By establishing a reasonable schedule – sleeping early and waking up early – you are allowing your body to have a stable schedule, which will instantly help you feel more productive. Waking up early will let you have that extra time to invest in those little things that can boost up your mood. Things such as having some alone morning time to reflect on your day, read a book, have a cup of tea or coffee in peace, write on your journal, etc.
Turn off your phone for a reasonable time
We live in a day of social media hysteria – everything is on our phones, right? Emails, bank account, bills, social media, shopping, etc.
Especially now that we are locked in our homes, we can become easily addicted to our devices. As consequence, we can easily forget to spend one-on-one time with our loved ones, have good quality time with each other or with ourselves.
Whether you work with social media or not, it is crucial to set a time where you will step away from your phone. Use that time to connect with your husband and kids and to let go of all the stresses before bed, so that none of your daily problems follow you to sleep.
When you don’t have organization in your life, there’s chaos and confusion that can easily lead to stress. However, when you are organized, life just flows better.
Organization can be achieved by setting a detailed schedule, keeping your goals and ambitions in mind, making sure those bills are paid, etc. This is easily aided with a to-do list, a calendar, an agenda or a journal.
Another important thing that goes in line with this is to avoid leaving things till the last minute. Always be aware of your deadlines so that you are not overwhelmed and panicking about all the things you haven’t done and all the things you need to do.
Be more affectionate
When you have been married for a long time, a lot of things can get in the way of the romance aspect of your relationship.
It is quite easy to get lost in the parenting routine and forget about yourselves as a whole. But it is extremely important to keep that flame and love alive.
So, for 2021, I challenge you all to focus on being a little bit more selfish with your relationships. Give a bit more time to your loved ones, make the effort to connect with them and don’t forget to be more affectionate with each other.
Work out consistently
Last year, I was working out consistently for a good, solid 6 months period. In 2021, I am trying to get back to working out at least 5 times a week.
It may seem like a lot, but workouts do not have to be lengthy. You can work out for 20 minutes a day and still feel good.
The thing that I love about working out is the feeling that comes with it. When I finish working out, I feel amazing and accomplished – which is the perfect formula to start or to finish the day!
Call your loved ones more often
I have a terrible habit of not reaching out to people.
With 2021, I want to make a habit out of calling my loved ones and close friends more often – even if it’s just to check up on them and say “Hi, how are you? How was your day?”.
It’s all about stepping out of my “work, work, work” box and making the time to communicate more with people that I love.
Always remember that at the end of the day, tomorrow is not promised. It is crucial to show your love to the ones you love!
Find ways to help others – big or small.
Because this year I have been continuously blessed financially, I want to be able to give back to those who need it the most.
This can either be by helping my mom financially, reaching out to a shelter, donating to a charity, etc. My true goal is to truly impact a person directly and not let my money be distributed to other people’s hands.
